Landscape Patterns- Off the Coast of Cuba and the Bahamas

Location: Underwater Patterns, Cuba/Bahamas
Map

Off the Coast of Cuba
Original Landsat 7 ETM+ image taken from the USGS online archives, August, 1999. Landsat Image ID: 7011045009921350

The image to the right is of an area to the North of the Eastern tip of Cuba which stretches for approximately 47 miles towards the Bahama region to the tip of Castle in the Acklins. This region begins North of the city of Baracoa, on the tip of the island of Cuba. The ocean floor can be seen through the transparent water in this image with only a few visible white clouds in the upper left area.

Notice the two ridge like features that are denoted by the green lines to the right. These ridges contain patterns that appear to be etched onto the surface of the ocean floor. Could these patterns be evidence of super megalithic ruins on the bottom of the ocean? Due to their sheer size and for lack of any conclusive proof of any artificial origin, these pattern images will be placed in this new project, 'Landscape Patterns'.

According to the image evidence it appears that the best places around the Bahamas region to look for these patterns is the Hogsty Reef and Brown Bank areas between Cuba and the Acklins.

The images below are close-ups of the areas pictured above right in the red squares. It appears that the sun is shining on the underwater ridgeline in the image above and the pattern can be seen on parts of the image. I've applied an embossing filter below which raises and lowers lighter and darker areas of the image.

An interesting area is revealed in close-up C below. When the Photoshop filter is applied an area can be clearly seen that appears to have been blurred out so no detail is present in this particular area of the original image. It is not certain what the cause of the blurring could be, but it does show a break in the patterned area and reveals non-uniformity of the pattern throughout the image.

The pattern above is extremely interesting and all the images portray a highly intricate pattern of angles, circles and parallel lines all connecting each other like a giant labyrinth or an incredibly large machine.

The link to the left will open a new browser window with an image of the Cuba/Bahama underwater landscape region in the main window. The navigation controls are opened by placing your cursor on the open button which causes the control panel to appear. You can zoom in, zoom out and play an animation of a color image enhancement to the original.

You will need the Flash Player installed on your computer to see the viewer.

It has been concluded by examining the available image data that these patterns are not a result of any satellite image processing or post-processing technique.
It is still uncertain what these landscape patterns could be or what process has caused their formation.
